The Battalion Standard

What Is The Battalion Standard?

I spend a lot of my time training and mentoring healthcare professionals, and yes, most of what we talk about is medicine. How to become better clinicians. How to make better decisions. How to communicate with patients and work within a team. How to handle difficult cases and continue developing professionally.

But some of the most important development happens outside of the hospital. There are conversations about career, family, ambition, burnout, identity, health, relationships, business, failure, and figuring out what you actually want your life to look like.

Those conversations matter too.

Because at some point, the shift ends. You take off the scrubs, leave the hospital, close the laptop, or walk out of the station—and there is still an entire life waiting for you.

So that’s what this is.

Life. Medicine. Perspective.

A place to talk about medicine and the careers we’ve worked hard to build, but also everything that happens outside of them. Some articles will be about medicine. Others may have almost nothing to do with it. I’ll talk about things I’ve learned, things I’ve gotten wrong, things I’m working toward, and probably a few things I’m still trying to figure out.

This isn’t meant to be another source telling you how you should live your life. It’s a collection of experiences, observations, and conversations that I think are worth having.

And hopefully, something worth reading when your shift is over.

These are my thoughts—occasionally polished, slightly filtered, and shaped by the life I’m living after rounds. It's a little medicine, a lot of perspective, and a constant reminder to keep raising the standard.
